Verse of the Day ~ February 29, 2012 (Leap Day:D)

Psalm 25:1-3 ~ To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

Are you ashamed of God? Do you let God take care of your enemies? Do wait on God? We should all answer yes to those questions. But honestly can we all say yes? I doubt it. Especially about the enemies part. When someone does something wrong to us we want to get them back. We don't want just say ok I forgive you. But what does God want us to do? He wants us to do our part (by being nice and forgiving) and let Him do the rest. You don't have to be best friends with your enemies just be nice. Trying "killing them with kindness." Don't be ashamed of our God. He can do great and mighty things. All things happen in His perfect timing so we don't need to worry about it. In conclusion, this is what we learned:
1.Lift up your soul to God.
2.Trust in God.
3.Do not be ashamed.
4.Let God take care of your enemies.

this is what homework does to me...

I am seriously considering whether homework is healthy or not... It creates stress (most of the time) and that's not healthy is it? It also messes with brain. Like the other day while I was doing algebra homework I wrote -0... and today one of the questions on my geography hw was "What are the 4 presidents whose heads are carved on Mount Rushmore?" I wrote, "George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Edison." Oh wait... Thomas Edison wasn't a president. See what I mean? But homework is still being forced on all kids ages 4 to 18. Guess it's just a neccessary evil... kinda going to the dentist and getting shots. ;)

Verse of the Day ~ February 24, 2012

Proverbs 23:22-23 ~ Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

I'm going to divide today's post into two sections: Verse 22 and Verse 23.

Verse 22: This is basically saying honor your parents regardless of age. Notice that word REGARDLESS. It means there is NO EXCEPTION. As long as they live they are your parents. Honor is a very broad word. It doesn't mean to simply obey them. How about respect? obey? value? love? trust? Ever thought about putting value on your parents? Well, you should because they're pretty special! I mean they had you didn't they? But seriously there are no exceptions. The Bible doesn't say, "Honor your parents. Oh unless you disagree with them... or if you don't like what they're saying.... or if you think they're being unfair." NO!!!! THAT IS NOT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS!!!!!!!! It says, and I quote, "Honor your father and mother." See that? No and's, or's, if's, but's. Honor your father and mother. God wasn't kidding around when He commanded us to do this. God makes no mistakes and the Bible is perfectly clear. I mean come on it doesn't take a rocket scientist to read and comprehend "Thou shalt not kill". Right? If I'm wrong I'd sure love for someone to let me know...

Verse 23: So after that you're probably like "Wow... after that I'm kinda concerned about what she's gonna say next..." Don't worry. I'm not trying to be mean I'm just trying to stand up for most kids today have just overlooked. What does it mean to buy truth? Well, what does it mean to buy something? When you buy something you need it or want it. You place value on it, right? How often do we put value on truth? wisdom? instruction? understanding? Those are important things! If God values something, shouldn't we value it also? If we don't, that's a major problem. But seriously we need to value those things. We need to strive to be truthful, heed wisdom, be receptive to instruction, and be understanding.

These two verse present quite a challenge don't you think? I think so. But we're up to it. God wouldn't tell us to do something we would not be able to acheive. So, are you up for the challenge?

Verse of the Day ~ February 23, 2012

First off, I have a small prayer request. Last night we got a call that my Great Grandpa died. He'd been in the hospital for a little over 2 weeks I think. He was doing really bad. They think he had a heart attack and he died right after that. If you wouldn't mind could you just pray for my Great Grandma, my Grandma, and my Grandpa. They all are going to have to adjust to some new things and possibly new living arrangements. Thanks! Now for the verse of the day!

James 2:20,22,24,26 ~ But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfet? You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. For as the body without that spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

So, yesterday we talked about the fact that salvation is only obtainable through Christ. That is not something we can earn. It is a gift from God. Today, as you can see in those verses, we learn (although I'm pretty sure most of you already know that;)) that faith is no good unless we have the works to go along with it. It's dead. What would our faith be if we didn't read the Bible? didn't go to church? didn't help minister? didn't pray? All of those things are 'works' and they are all neccessary for us to grow in the Lord. If we didn't do any of those things our faith would be dead. We wouldn't know anything about God. The One who saved us. So, just cause your saved doesn't mean you have a free ride. You have been saved from your sins but that doesn't mean that you can go live how you want. You must have works to support your faith. Does that make sense? Think about it this way: Think about a table. There are two main parts to a table, the top and the legs. Are those parts very useful by themselves? No, not really. They're 'dead'. But, together they make a very useful table. Think about your works as the table legs. Think about your faith as the table top. Separate they're aren't very useful, but together they are very efficient, very effective. Works can't save you but they are required of you.

Verse of the Day ~ February 22, 2012

Ephesians 2:8-9 ~ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

It is very important that we understand that our salvation can only be obtained through Christ. No work we could ever do could amount to salvation. How often do we find ourselves trying to do good works to gain merit with God? I'm not saying good works are bad, but we can only be saved through faith. We can only be saved through Christ. It is His gift to us that He died for.
Just some of my thoughts on those verses :)

Don't forget to wear a blue shirt today!!!

Verse of the Day ~ February 21, 2012

Revelation 2:4-5 ~ "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place - unless you repent."

I don't really need to say much more do I? Who is your first love? God. How do you leave your First Love? By sinning against Him. Anything you do that is considered sin or not pleasing to the Lord means that you value that thing more than you value your First Love. I'd never thought about it that way until now. Just thought I'd share that with you

Friday, February 17, 2012

Well, I haven't been very faithful with my "Verse of the Day" this week... I've been super busy. I mean I've still been doing my devotions. Just because I was busy doesn't mean I haven't been reading my Bible... I still do that everyday but I haven't had time to post on my blog. Lord willing, I should be doing those daily again next week.

I haven't been up to much other than school. Except, of course, music. I can't go very long without playing my piano or my violin. It's actually quite addicting after you play for a while;). I had a really good workout yesterday. Just me, my iPod, my soccer ball, and my backyard. It was a whole lot of fun. I was reminded of my love for soccer. I actually found myself laughing and then figured I better stop before the neighbors start to think I'm weird;). Although, I've been living here for almost 6 years... if they we're gonna think I was weird it would've happened a long time ago;).

I've enjoyed my Friday. Although, I'm starting to get sick... woke up with a sore throat. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow with no sore throat;). That would be so nice... When I was sick (less than two months ago) I felt like I was going to turn into an orange I drank so much orange juice. Oh well... :) Well, in case you're completely bored to death (which is entirely likely) I thought I might put some pictures I haven't posted yet. Have a great night! :)

Yeah...

I just realized that most of my posts that have no meaning have ... in the title... and a lot  in the posts;) Well, anyways... Last night was pretty awesome. Our youth group had to set up for the banquet we're having tonight... we had a blast. We ate pizza and drank cherry coke and had an amazing devotion (thank you Mr. Kevin!!!). After that MK and I sewed some of the centerpieces for the tables while watching the hilarious skits the boys are doing... it was hilarious. Then we all got to make lasagna... and yes it is still edible. ;) It looked amazing and I'm sure it tastes amazing too;). I'm sure tonight is gonna be tons of fun:). Well, since you're probably bored now... why don't you scroll down? I'm sure it'll make you laugh;).

Verse of the Day ~ February 10, 2012

Proverbs 6:16-24 ~ These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. My son, keep your fathers command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. For the commandment is a lamp, And that law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.

Have you ever commited any one of those seven things? I know I have. The Lord hates those things. Do you know how the Lord defines hatred? The Lord equalizes hatred with murder. So, when we hate it is a sin but God is not sinning by saying He hates those seven things. The Lord also tells us that we are to keep our father's commands and not forsake the law of our mother. If you don't honor your parents and respect them, your life will not be pleasing to the Lord. The Lord gave you those parents for a reason. Your parents want to guide you through life as much as they can. And no, they're not being controlling. Contrary to popular belief, they only want the best for you. They've been your age before. They've dealt with stuff you are and will be dealing with. They've learned lessons sometimes the hard way. All they want to do is keep you from that. Does that description remind you of Someone else? It should remind you of God. He has experienced all those things. He already knows everything. All He wants to do is guide you through your life, helping you along the way. He doesn't want to see you get hurt. But, if you're not willing to give to your life to Him you will get hurt. You can't have your way and God's way. Why? Because we are human. We are sinners. Since we are sinners, we are apart from God. Our ways are not His ways by nature. That's why we have to constantly seek God and His wisdom so that we might honor Him. If you think that you can have the world and Jesus you're wrong. We are in the world but we don't have to be of the world. Next time your parents give you guidance or instruction, don't turn your nose up at them or smart off. They only want to help you. We need to be open and receptive to your parents teaching. Don't harden towards them. If you harden your heart towards your parents, chances are, you're probably going to harden your heart to God also. Don't harden your heart. In reality, you only hurt yourself when you do that. So, in your own strenght you won't be open and receptive cause that requires overcoming the temptation of ignoring your parents and smarting off to them. You can't do that. We can't overcome any temptation unless we have God's help. And what's my favorite verse???;) Yep. Matthew 19:26 says, "And Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, But with God all things are possible.'"

Seriously?

I have failed to understand why people feel the need to cuss. I'm not trying to come across like some little five-year-old who goes around telling people they said a bad word... I just don't see the point. I mean you get at something or somebody so saying a stronger word will make you feel better? That makes absolutely no sense... But you know what? You don't have to be a certain age to cuss... you don't have to be a certain age to grow up either. And if you wanted to act immature, what about courtesy for those around you? Believe it or not, there are a lot of parents who don't want their kids to hear that kind of language. Also, I HATE hearing people talk like that and so do a lot of other people. So, I'm not really sure if I've failed to understand it or if there's nothing to understand... just my thoughts on the subject.

Verse of the Day ~ February 9, 2012

Psalm 56:3-4 ~ Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

How many times do you get afraid? In youth group, we're talking about fear. There are two kinds of fear: (1)healthy and (2)harmful. I think you can through your fears and find that most of them are probably harmful. Why? Because you need to trust God. I'm not saying that all of your fears aren't legitimate. Some fears can be very helpful and even save your life. But we don't need to be so afraid that we lose that trust in God to protect us. In youth group, I got a handout for us to write down why don't need to fear with verses to support each answer. It was really encouraging to me some I'm going to put some of it here so hopefully it will be encouraging to you:)
Fear Not! Why Not?
  1. I will not fear because God is with me. (Gen.26:24; Psalm 23:4; Isaiah 41:10; 43:5; Jer. 46:28; Deut.20:1)
  2. I will not fear because God will fight for me. (Exoduz 14:13-13; Deut. 3:22; 20:3-4; 2 Chron. 20:15,17)
  3. I will not fear because God will not fail me or forsake me. (Deut. 31:6,8; 1 Chron. 28:20)
  4. I will not fear because God is on my side. (Psalm 118:6)
  5. I will not fear because God will help me. (Isaiah 41:13-14)
  6. I will not fear because God has redeemed me. (Isaiah 43:1)
  7. I will not fear because God will deliver me. (Deuteronomy 7:18, 20:1)
  8. I will not fear because I have put my trust in God. (Psalm 56:3,4,11; Psalm 112:2; Mark 5:36)
  9. I will not fear because I am valuable to God. (Matthew 10:29-31; John 3:16)
  10. I will note fear because God is God. (John 6:20)
Understanding Who God Is Helps Us Not To Fear.
  1. I will not fear because He is my God. (Isaiah 41:10)
  2. I will not fear because He is my shield and reward. (Genesis 15:1)
  3. I will not fear because He is my confidence. (Proverbs 3:25-26)
  4. I will not fear because He is my strength, light, and salvation. (Psalm 27:1)
  5. I will not fear because His is my refuge and help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1-2)
  6. I will not fear because He is my helper. (Hebrews 13:6)
  7. I will not fear because He is my refuge and my fortress. (Psalm 91:2,5)

Verse of the Day ~ February 8, 2012

In Psalm 107, I found a verse that is repeated 4 times in 43 verses. That verse said, "Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distress." Why do you think that verse is repeated 4 times? Well, if you read the whole chapter you will quickly find the theme: God's protection and deliverance of His people. At least that's the theme I come up with... But this whole chapter talks about people in their 'distress'. What does distress mean? Distress means to cause misery or suffering to; an affliction; a state of danger or trouble. Does that sound like us? Absolutely. We suffer. We have conflict (affliction). We are sometimes in a state of danger or trouble. See the parallel? We can't avoid distress. Why? Because Adam and Eve sinned. But the blame can't all go on them... we sin too. Sin means separation from God and when there's separation from God, there's distress. I think that Psalm 107 was meant to be an encouragement. It states how bad humans are but it also states that "... He saved them out of their distress." We are human sinners and we have to go through distress, but we can be saved from that. How? Calling on the Lord. This doesn't mean you're never going to have trouble because you will. But it's much easier to go through 'distress' with God on your side than alone. We can't go through those things on our own because we're not strong enough. We are nothing without Christ. But what does my favorite verse say? You should know it by now;) Matthew 19:26 ~ And Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, But with God all things are possible."

Verse of the Day ~ February 7, 2012

Hebrews 12:5-11 ~ And have you forgotten the exortation that addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discpline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Contrary to popular belief, discipline is a very good thing. No, it's not fun... but it's for our own good. I know I sound like a parent but it really is true. When you did something wrong did your parent(s) spank you? Was it fun? Of course it wasn't! But later you were thankful right? You still love your parents and you probably respect them more. So, what do we do when God "spanks" us? You're probably wondering how in the world I came up with that... just wait... I'm getting there:). Seriously think about it. We are God's children more than we are our earthly parents children. So how does God discipline? Well, I think that the major way He disciplines us is when we do wrong. I mean if you argue with your parents and you stomp away mad are you just gonna get away with that? Probably not. You're probably going to apologize (whether you're forced to or not). What about when you stomp away mad from God? When God throws something your way that you don't like. What do you do? What about when you do something wrong and don't make it right? You're going to be punished. ALL sin has consequences. God doesn't punish us because He gets mad at us. He punishes us because He loves us and He wants to help us do right. So, next time you get in trouble or something doesn't go your way make sure your attitude is right. Because we all know responding correctly is a whole lot easier than apologizing;).

Verse of the Day ~ February 6, 2012

Psalm 138:1-2 ~ I will praise you with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified You word above all Your name.

Do you praise God? I'm not talking about church... although that it very important. But do you really praise God? How about when you get a bad grade in school even though you worked really hard? Do you praise God? Hoe about when someone in your family gets sick or even dies? Do you praise God? How about when your favorite sports team loses? Do you praise God? You should. Why? Because He deserves it. Why? Well, we wouldn't even be here if it weren't for God... I mean He kinda created us and the things essential for living. He also died a horrible so that we could have eternal life. He is very much deserving of our praise and much more. He deserves our every thought, action, etc. He deserves our ALL. He already owns us. He could make us do exactly what He wanted us to do but He doesn't. He gave us the choice. Don't waste that opportunity. You have the choice. Think you can't do it? Well, you can't do it. Not in your own strength. But you wanna know what? My favorite verse, Matthew 19:26, says, "And Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, But with God all things are possible.'" He is waiting for you to ask Him to help you. He won't deny your request because He loves you and desires your praise.

Verse of the Day ~ February 3, 2012

Colossians 3:13-14 ~ bearing with one another, and forgiving on another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all theses things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

So we really have no excuse for holding grudges. We don't have any excuse for complaining about someone or being mad if someone complains about you. Why? Because Christ forgave us. Do you know how nasty He was treated? Even today all of us sin and dishonor God but He still forgives us no matter what. Why? Because He loves us. And love covers all things. "love is the bond of perfection." Does that tell you how important love is? If we want to even begin to be like Christ, we must have love. Love for people and especially love for God. We must love enough to be willing to sacrifice for someone else. It's worth it. How do I know? Because your reward will be in heaven. Wouldn't you want to spend a small amount of time sacrificing and doing something you might not want to do for an eternity with Christ? Compared to what Christ went through, this is not a big task. And it's completely doable. How? Matthew 19:26 says, "And Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, But with God all things are possible.'"

Blogging Tips

Ok so for those of who want a lot of people to read your blog here are some tips... not that I'm in any place to give tips about those things because not a whole lot of people read my blog... oh well. ;)

1.Post on your blog every day. If you don't update your blog regularly people are get tired of checking your blog and there's never anything new.

2.Don't post boring stuff. This is a very broad category... it includes posts with a TON of words. I know my last few posts have been full of words and can get rather boring sometimes... Just keep it exciting:)

3.Post your web address EVERYWHERE! This can come across as being annoying so be a fanatic about it but post it on twitter, facebook, tumblr, youtube, etc. Trust me it pays off.

4.Make sure you take input from your family and friends. If you have good friends (and family;)) then they will tell (if you ask) what they think you should do with your blog. Input from the outside can be very helpful. And DON'T get mad when people correct you. Remember you did ask them for it...

5.Try not to just copy and paste stuff. This can get really, really, annoying. People start to wonder if there's actually a person writing the blog or if it's just a computer.

6.Finally, number 6. DO NOT POST 2 LINE POSTS. So, imagine you're really bored and you see that someone has a new post up. You get all excited and go to their website. Then you realize the post was only 2 lines. You start to realize that you just lost 30 seconds of your life you can never get back. You get depressed and never visit that website again. (Ok so that was a little drastic but you get the point right?)

So, you're probably laughing by now... that was kinda my point. ;) But there are some good tips in there;). Have a great day y'all;)

Verse of the Day ~ February 2, 2012

Hebrews 13:5-6 ~ Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you not forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

Ok. So, we can get two main points from these two verses. In the first verse the main point it to be content. In the second verse the main point is not to fear. Instead of combining the two (which would probably result in confusion)... I'm just going to seperate them.

Verse 1: Are you content? That's kind of a broad question but are you? Or are you constantly wanting more things? Honestly, I'm not very content. I am constantly thinking (or dreaming) about things that I want and not focusing on what's really important. If you stop and think about it, wanting is just a waste of time. I mean all wanting is "wanting" earthly things that will pass away. Sounds like a waste of time doesn't it? Now this doesn't mean that just because you want something that you're an awful person. We have to put things in perspective. Whenever you catch yourself thinking about something you want, stop and think about what's more important. Instead of dreaming about something you want, try dreaming about how wonderful heaven will be.

Verse 2: Are you afraid of anything? I'm being completely honest when I tell you that I am absolutely terrified of spiders. Like seriously. Even if I see one on tv I cringe... I couldn't even download the Mentos app because it freaked me out. But is that a good type of fear? Well, probably not to that extreme but a fear of spiders could result in saving my life. Because I was scared I didn't touch the spider. If there was no fear I would freely pick the spider up and possibly get bitten. So would say that's a helpful fear? I would because it benefits me more than it harms me. So what's a bad fear? I think a good example of bad fear is found in the Bible (thanks to Mr. Kevin going over this in youth group last night;)). Remember when Peter walked on the water and then started to sink? He became very afraid. Why? Because He wasn't trusting in Christ anymore. He lost faith. This is definitely a bad kind of fear. In Matthew 14:31 Jesus responds to Peter by saying, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" Do you see a parallel here? We should have a healthy fear of certain things because they can protect us from harm but we also have to be careful and stay away from that bad kind of fear. We need to constantly be trusting God to protect us because He will.

I hope all that made sense and you were encouraged by that:) Have a great day!

Verse of the Day ~ February 1, 2012

Psalm 73:21-24 ~ Thus my heart was grieved, And I was vexed in my mind. I was so foolish and ignorant; I was like a beast before You. Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.

While reading those verses did you happen to wonder if it was talking about us? Because all those things are (or were) true for us. Our heart was greived; our minds are vexed; we're foolish and ignorant; we were like a beast before God. But you wanna know what? God is still with us. He never left our side. He's even holding our right hand to guide us with His counsel and one day receive us to glory. Isn't that wonderful? We were (and still are) dirty rotten sinners but God is willing to completely forgive us for all of that. Just thought those verses were encouraging:). Have a great day
